Job summary

Minnetonka Public Schools is seeking a paraprofessional to support individualized instruction for students with special needs. The role involves 1:1 or small group assistance in regular and special education classrooms, helping with self-care tasks and basic medical procedures under supervision, and operating assistive devices.

The position requires meeting MDE Highly Qualified standards from day one, with training in CPI strategies and data recording.

Qualifications

• Must meet highly qualified status, as defined by the MDE, beginning on day 1 of employment.
• Evidence of Personal Care Assistant Training certification as part of pre-employment process.
• Demonstrated experience supporting student instruction in the classroom.
• Knowledge/experience in using behavior modification strategies including restitution and resiliency.
• Demonstrated training/knowledge of CPI strategies, preferred.
• Ability to be firm but kind, caring but consistent, patient and vigilant.
• Ability to accept direction from supervising teachers and work as a team.
• Ability to write concise observational data and maintain logs/behavior charts.
• Willingness to participate in district trainings for paraprofessionals.

Responsibilities

• Support, modify, adjust and monitor individualized instruction for special education students in 1:1 or small group settings.
• Assist with self-care tasks; lifting may be necessary; basic medical procedures under supervision.
• Operate and supervise use of assistive technology and equipment.
• Apply student management techniques and address self-destructive behaviors.
• Participate in IEP conferences and meetings with staff/parents as requested.
• Record observations, maintain data logs, daily attendance, and behavior charts.
• Perform other related duties and participate in third party reimbursement training as needed.
