Job summary

Mesa Public Schools in Mesa, AZ is seeking a paraprofessional to assist certified teachers in monitoring and instructing special education students under supervision. You will support students in academic tasks, daily living activities, and health care-related tasks as needed.

The role includes implementing behavioral plans, collecting data on goals, and aiding in the preparation of instructional materials while maintaining a safe classroom and positive learning environment.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree or 60 college credit hours required at time of hire OR pass the ParaPro Test provided by the district free of charge
• Experience working with children

Responsibilities

• Deliver, under teacher’s direction, classroom work/homework and/or reinforce classroom objectives
• Assist the development of instructional materials and maintenance of classroom
• Assist in data collection on academic and behavior goals
• Implement positive behavior intervention plans for students displaying challenging behaviors
• Respond to problem behaviors according to the student’s plan and district policy
• Assist students with personal care needs as needed to ensure functioning in a school setting
• Accompany students as they transition across campus
• Monitor small groups to maintain a safe learning environment
• Maintain classroom and equipment to ensure safety
• Model professional, safe and respectful behavior
• Perform general clerical tasks to support the teacher
• Participate in meetings to improve skills and knowledge
• Regular and on-time attendance required
• Assist with other duties as appropriate to the assignment
