Job summary

Mesa Public Schools seeks a paraprofessional to assist, under direct supervision of certified teachers and specialists, in monitoring and instruction of special education students implementing IEPs; to assist students in performing their academic, daily living and health care activities; to relieve teacher of routine clerical tasks.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree or 60 college credit hours required at time of hire OR pass the ParaPro Test provided by the district free of charge.
• Preferred: High school diploma or equivalent; Experience working with children.

Responsibilities

• Deliver, under teacher’s direction, classroom work/homework and reinforce objectives; tutoring and guided practice.
• Assist in development of instructional materials and maintenance of the classroom.
• Assist in data collection on academic and behavior goals as instructed.
• Collaborate with certified personnel to implement positive behavior intervention plans.
• Respond to problem behaviors per the student’s plan and district policy.
• Assist with transferring and lifting non-ambulatory students as needed.
• Support personal hygiene to develop students’ daily living skills.
• Accompany students during transitions across campus.
• Monitor groups to maintain a safe learning environment; facilitate peer interactions.
