Job summary

Wake County Public School System is seeking an Instructional Assistant for Special Education. The role supports teachers with IEP coordination, prepares materials, and helps implement behavioral plans in a classroom setting.

Responsibilities include assisting with assistive technology, maintaining confidentiality, and guiding students toward independence while ensuring safety and inclusion across lessons. This is a Monday–Friday on-site position with potential evenings or weekends.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Apps is required.
• Understanding of instructional delivery methods and classroom routines.
• Ability to protect confidential information under FERPA.
• Ability to work in a team and collaborate effectively.
• Ability to motivate students and monitor safety in the classroom.
• Ability to support students from diverse backgrounds and learning styles.
• Clear and concise oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to build positive working relationships with staff, students, parents, and community partners.

Responsibilities

• Support teachers in coordinating instructional programs and reviewing IEPs.
• Assist with behavioral intervention plans and classroom organization.
• Prepare materials and ensure accessibility to lessons and resources.
• Demonstrate professional skills to support student achievement and school programs.
• Maintain confidentiality and assist with student transitions and CPI-related tasks.
• Provide health and safety support, including assistance with special health care needs as needed.
• Assist with assistive technology and AAC devices in the classroom.
• Attend district staff development and maintain required records.
