Job summary

Chicago Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Classroom Assistant to support students with a range of disabilities under the direction of a Special Education teacher. Responsibilities include reinforcing instruction, providing one-on-one tutoring, and assisting with daily living skills.

The role involves personal hygiene support, record-keeping, and occasional supervision during field trips and class activities. CPR may be required and training is offered as needed.

Qualifications

• Paraprofessional license from ISBE or equivalent required; 60 college credits or Parapro exam completion.
• Experience supporting students with various disabilities is preferred.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions and complete written reports.

Responsibilities

• Assist Special Education teacher in reinforcing instruction and student learning.
• Provide one-on-one tutoring and personal hygiene assistance as needed.
• Assist in daily living activities, transportation to clinics or pools, and field trips as required.
• Maintain records of student behavior and assist with homework and grading as applicable.
