Job summary

Chicago Public Schools seeks a Special Education Classroom Assistant to support teachers and students with IEPs in elementary and high schools. The role includes one-on-one tutoring, personal hygiene assistance, and helping students with daily living skills, mobility devices, and class activities.

The position requires a valid ISBE paraprofessional license or 60 college hours or paraprofessional exam, along with strong communication and knowledge of disabilities.

Qualifications

• Good knowledge of characteristics of students with various disabilities.
• Good knowledge of English grammar and spelling.
• Good knowledge of basic mathematics.
• Good oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist in instruction of disabled students in elementary and high schools.
• Provide one-on-one tutoring and personal hygiene services.
• Assist with daily living skills and mobility tools/devices.
• accompany students to swimming pools and medical clinics as needed.
• Take notes and correct homework; maintain behavior records.
• Attend workshops and in-service training to update skills.
