The role involves one-on-one tutoring, help with feeding and personal care as needed, note-taking, and aiding with classroom activities, field trips, and behavior records.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid ISBE paraprofessional license or have 60 college credits.
• Alternative: paraprofessional exam such as Work Keys or Parapro.
• Good knowledge of English grammar and spelling.
• Good knowledge of basic mathematics.
• Ability to work with students with various disabilities, birth to 21.
• CPR training is highly desirable; training may be required after employment.

Responsibilities

• Assists in instruction of students with disabilities per IEPs.
• Provides one-on-one tutoring and personal hygiene assistance as needed.
• Assists with positioning and mobility of non-ambulatory students.
• Maintains written records of student behavior and progress.
• Accompanies students on class field trips and supports daily living skills.
• Operates classroom equipment as directed; CPR may be required.
