Qualifications

• Must possess a valid TASN (NCLB) paraprofessional license from ISBE.
• 60 semester hours of college credit or successful completion of paraprofessional exam.
• Paraprofessional license or certificate must be obtained after qualifying.
• Good knowledge of disabilities, English grammar and basic mathematics.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions and complete basic written reports.
• CPR training is highly desirable and may be required to complete training.

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers in reinforcing learning for students with various disabilities.
• Provide one-on-one tutoring and personal hygiene services.
• Assist in daily living skills and positioning equipment.
• Accompany students to swimming pools and medical clinics.
• Assist with feeding students who cannot feed themselves.
• Take notes in classrooms and maintain behavior records.
• Attend workshops and in-service training to update skills.
• Support students on class field trips.
