Job summary

Mesa Public Schools seeks a paraeducator to assist, under direct supervision of certified teachers and specialists, in monitoring and instruction of special education students implementing IEPs. You will help students with academics, daily living and health care activities, and relieve teachers of routine clerical tasks.

The role involves data collection on goals, behavior plans, mobility assistance, and maintaining a safe classroom environment across inclusion or self-contained settings.

Qualifications

• Requires Associate’s Degree or 60 college credits or pass the ParaPro Test.
• Preferred: High school diploma or equivalent; experience with children.

Responsibilities

• Deliver, under teacher direction, classroom work and reinforce objectives.
• Assist development of instructional materials and classroom maintenance.
• Collect data on academic and behavior goals as instructed.
• Support positive behavior intervention plans for students with challenging behaviors.
• Respond to problem behaviors per plan and district policy.
• Assist in transferring and lifting non-ambulatory students as needed.
• Help students with personal hygiene to support daily living activities.
• Assist with personal care needs and medical-related support.
• Accompany students during transitions across campus.
• Monitor and supervise small groups to maintain a safe learning environment.
• Maintain classroom and equipment for safety.
• Perform general clerical tasks to support the teacher.
• Attend meetings to share information and improve skills.
• Regular and on-time attendance is required.
• Assist other personnel to support work activities.
• Assist with additional duties as assigned by Mesa Public Schools.
