Job summary

Chicago Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Classroom Assistant to support teachers and students with diverse disabilities. You will reinforce instruction, provide one-on-one tutoring, assist with daily living and personal hygiene, and help document student behavior.

You may accompany students to swimming pools, clinics, and field trips. Minimum qualifications include a valid TASN paraprofessional license from ISBE and strong knowledge of disability characteristics, English, and math.

Qualifications

• Certification requirements: valid TASN paraprofessional license from ISBE (60 college credits or Parapro exam).
• Knowledge of characteristics of students with disabilities, English grammar & spelling, basic mathematics.
• Ability to work with students with disabilities aged birth to 21; follow written and oral instructions; maintain records.

Responsibilities

• Assist in reinforcing instruction for Students with disabilities.
• Lift and position non-ambulatory students as directed.
• Provide one-on-one tutoring and personal hygiene services as needed.
• Assist with daily living skills to promote independence.
• Accompany students to swimming pools and medical clinics.
• Take notes in classrooms for students who cannot do so themselves.
• Maintain written records of students’ behavior and progress.
• Attend workshops and trainings to update job skills.
