Job summary

Chicago Public Schools seeks a Special Education Classroom Assistant to support instruction for students with various disabilities. You will provide one-on-one tutoring, assist with daily living skills, and help maintain academic and behavioral records under supervision of a Special Education teacher.

The role requires a valid paraprofessional license or credential, completion of college coursework, and CPR training is desirable.

Qualifications

• Good knowledge of the characteristics of students with various disabilities.
• Good knowledge of English grammar and spelling.
• Good knowledge of basic mathematics.
• Ability to work with and for students aged birth to 21.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions and produce basic reports.
• CPR training is desirable and may be required on completion.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the instruction of students with disabilities in elementary and high schools.
• Provide one-on-one tutoring and personal assistance as needed.
• Assist in daily living skills and positioning equipment for students.
• Accompany students to swimming pools and medical clinics as required.
• Correct homework and maintain written behavior records.
• Support teachers and participate in workshops.
