Job summary

Chicago Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Classroom Assistant to support teachers in elementary and high school settings. You will reinforce learning concepts for students with various disabilities, assist with daily living skills, and provide one-on-one tutoring.

Under a Special Education teacher's supervision and with a valid paraprofessional license, you may help with personal hygiene tasks, note-taking, and field trips, while following IEPs and school procedures.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid TASN paraprofessional license from ISBE after 60 semester hours or paraprofessional exam.
• Good knowledge of English grammar and spelling, and basic mathematics.

Responsibilities

• Assist Special Education teachers in reinforcing lessons for students with disabilities.
• Provide one-on-one tutoring services and personal hygiene assistance as needed.
• Assist with daily living skills and use of adaptive equipment.
• Accompany students to activities and field trips; take notes in class and maintain behavior records.
• Attend workshops and in-service training to update job skills.
