Job summary

Atrium Health Cabarrus in Concord, NC is seeking a Skilled Healthcare Interpreter-Spanish for day shifts (Tue, Wed, Sat & Sun) from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. The role supports patient access to care through in-person, telephone and video interpreting.

Responsibilities include interpreting patient and family needs, translational tasks, and cultural mediation. Requires 1 year of related experience and a high school diploma; Spanish proficiency is essential.

Qualifications

• 40 hours medical interpreter training preferred
• High school diploma required; Bachelor's degree preferred
• 1-year related experience required
• Knowledge of medical terminology and prior experience in a healthcare setting is required
• National medical interpreter certification preferred
• Completion of 40-hour Medical Interpretation Training Program within 1 year of hire required

Responsibilities

• Proactively responds to requests for language access in a healthcare setting, including in-person interpreting, telephone interpreting, video interpreting, and basic translation.
• Leverages technology to deliver services in multiple modalities and troubleshoots basic application issues with software and customers as needed.
• Maintains relationships with internal customers and determines appropriate interpreter modalities, aiming to contain costs and leverage vendor relationships.
• Interprets information regarding patient and family healthcare needs, including education, appointments, discharge instructions, procedures, and emergencies.
• Interprets accurately and concisely while considering cultural implications and idiomatic language differences.
• Educates caregivers as a cultural broker about the patient's culture in relation to healthcare.
• Abides by the healthcare system's conduct standards and follows national practice standards.
• Translates basic written information as needed within department guidelines.
• Serves as a cultural mediator and educates customers appropriately.
