Job summary

Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist is seeking a PRN Spanish Interpreter to support two Winston-Salem locations. The role ensures language access and culturally appropriate communication in healthcare encounters.

Candidates should have at least 1 year of related experience, medical terminology knowledge, and prefer national interpreter certification. Training within 1 year of hire is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or higher; Bachelor's degree preferred.
• 1-year related experience required.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare setting experience required.
• National medical interpreter certification preferred.
• Demonstrated competency via Interpreter Language Assessment.
• 40-hour Medical Interpretation Training within 1 year of hire required.

Responsibilities

• Respond to language access requests: in-person, telephone, video, and basic translation.
• Leverage technology to deliver services in multiple modalities; troubleshoot basic software issues.
• Maintain relationships with internal customers; decide appropriate interpreter modalities while managing costs.
• Interpret patient and family health information across education, appointments, procedures, and emergencies.
• Interpret accurately with awareness of cultural nuances and idiomatic language.
• Act as cultural broker to educate caregivers about patient culture in healthcare.
• Adhere to professional conduct standards and department guidelines.
• Translate basic written information as needed.
• Serve as cultural mediator to educate customers.
