Job summary

The City of Janesville is seeking a reliable Public Works Laborer to support the Solid Waste Operations Division. You will operate waste collection equipment, assist in street and stormwater projects, and perform routine vehicle maintenance.

A valid Class B CDL and one year of relevant experience are required. Qualified applicants will participate in snow and ice control, weather emergencies, and general duties to maintain city infrastructure.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Possession of a valid state-issued Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License, or ability to obtain such license within one year of hire.
• Minimum one year experience in equipment operation, general construction, or applicable trade.
• A valid, state-issued driver’s license at time of hire is required.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain a variety of equipment used in residential waste collection and landfill operations.
• Safely operate City vehicles and light/heavy construction equipment.
• Perform daily maintenance checks on equipment and report repairs.
• Assist with street construction, curb and stormwater work, and sign/paint operations.
• Respond to weather emergencies and snow/ice control.
• Maintain records of daily assignments and communications with supervisor.
