Job summary

The City of Lansing is seeking a Solid Waste Operator to assist with daily Public Service operations. This role involves operating packer trucks, collecting refuse and recyclables, and performing vehicle maintenance. The job suits individuals who enjoy outdoor work and physical activity in a municipal setting.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or GED and experience with heavy labor; CDL-B with air brakes and MDOT training are required. Some overtime or snow operations may be needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• One year of experience performing heavy manual labor is preferred.
• One year of experience operating a packer truck is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate a motorized vehicle up to 35 feet in length inside the driver’s cab to collect refuse and recyclables.
• Picks up refuse bags, yard waste, recycle and refuse carts, and deposits materials.
• May operate bulk item collection and lift furniture/appliances.
• Wash and clean vehicles daily, inside and out.
• Maintain packers and other solid waste vehicles as part of preventative maintenance.
• Complete daily logs, trips and inspection sheets with hand-written information.
