Job summary

The City of Janesville Wisconsin is seeking a Public Works Laborer to perform a variety of manual labor tasks in solid waste and street/landfill operations. Responsibilities include operating equipment, performing maintenance, and assisting with concrete and pavement work.

The role requires a high school diploma, a valid CDL B within one year, and at least one year of related experience. A valid driver's license is also required at hire.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Possession of a valid state-issued Class “B” CDL, or ability to obtain within one year of hire.
• Minimum one year experience in equipment operation, general construction, or applicable trade.
• Valid state-issued driver’s license at time of hire required.

Responsibilities

• Collect trash, recyclables, and yard waste with automated and manual collection vehicles.
• Safely operate City vehicles including dump trucks with snow plows and salt applicators, pickups, loaders, and other equipment.
• Maintain daily equipment maintenance by checking fluids and washing vehicles.
• Assist in construction/maintenance of streets and related infrastructure; curb and stormwater work.
• Assist with concrete work for curbs, stormwater infra, and street repairs.
• Apply traffic markings and signs in public right-of-way and on public property.
• Locate public infrastructure such as street lights, signals, and storm lines.
• Respond to weather clean-up emergencies including snow/ice and flooding.
