Job summary

RTX is seeking a software-focused intern/co-op in Rockford, IL to join an agile development team building reusable testing environments and software for hardware-in-the-loop simulations.

You will work on modular applications interfacing with test hardware, contribute to Linux/Windows systems, and grow skills in Python, C++, and software tools within a collaborative lab setting.

Qualifications

• Must be pursuing Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Software Engineering or related STEM major and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co-op session.
• Experience with python scripting.
• Experience with configuration management preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop modular software applications interfacing test equipment hardware and integrating them into a cohesive system.
• Collaborate with electrical engineers on wiring, hardware configuration and test stand requirements.
• Develop software tools for Automatic Test Equipment using Python, TCL, C++, and real-time software.
• Provide on-site and remote support, including debugging and OS administration.

What You Will Do:

Engineer will be part of an agile/scrum development team, creating & supporting a re-usable operating environment for automated product testing and hardware-in-the-loop simulations. Develop modular software applications which interface test equipment hardware (including prime mover controllers, loadbanks, power supplies, discrete/analog I/O and comms data networks) and integrate them into a cohesive system. Collaborate with electrical engineers on wiring, hardware configuration and test stand requirements. Develop leading-edge software tools, supercomputing clusters, and real-time software applications for Automatic Test Equipment using Object Oriented Design, scripting languages (Python, TCL & others), and the C++ programming language. Provide on-site and remote support (including debugging, operating system administration, and computer hardware build-up / teardown) to our internal customers in development labs. Develop for Linux and Windows operating systems. Generate and maintain software documentation and change requests. Review and update department processes.

Qualifications You Must Have:

Must be pursuing Bachelor's or Advanced degree in Software Engineering or related Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) major and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co-op session. Experience with python scripting. Experience with configuration management experience preferred. Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects.

The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
