Job summary

RTX in Cedar Rapids offers an internship/co‑op focused on aerospace systems. You will build system configuration tables, enable end‑to‑end communication, and help configure field‑loadable software for civil‑certified aircraft, contributing to FAA audits.

You will learn DO-178B software certification artifacts and collaborate with system, electrical, and software engineers while pursuing a degree in Systems, Aerospace, or STEM majors and developing strong written and oral communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Systems or Aerospace Engineering, or STEM major and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co‑op session.

What You Will Do:
  • You will build system configuration tables, identifying the inputs and tools from system requirements to enable end‑to‑end communication and application runtime environments.
  • You will configure and build system field-loadable software for civil‑certified military aircraft and help our team build on existing tools and practices.
  • You will assist our engineers in producing and reviewing engineering documents for FAA audits.
What You Will Learn:
  • You will learn the artifacts for system configuration for Collins avionics hardware.
  • You will learn about the protocols used on the networks and buses between systems and subsystems in our avionics solutions.
  • You will learn about the DO-178B software certification process and the artifacts and plans required for audits of our IMAT components.
Qualifications You Must Have:
  • Must be pursuing Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Systems or Aerospace Engineering, or Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics major and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co‑op session.
Qualifications We Prefer:
  • Experience with Python scripting
  • Experience working teams of engineers in multiple disciplines (system, electrical, software)
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Have a minimum of 60 hours of credit by the start of the internship / co‑op session.

The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short‑term disability, long‑term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective‑bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance. This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
