Job summary

RTX seeks a student or early-career software engineer for an onsite role in Sterling, VA. You will design, develop, test, and debug real-time, multi-threaded software for simulation and training, collaborating on an Agile team to plan and prioritize tasks.

You will gain experience across C/C++, Unreal Engine, AI/ML, VR/MR, and cloud tools while contributing to ongoing product support and maintenance. This internship/co-op emphasizes hands-on learning and professional growth.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's or advanced degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, CS or related STEM field.
• Strong OO design and programming with C/C++ or C#.
• Experience with source control systems (Git, Subversion, ClearCase).
• Experience in Windows or Linux development environments.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and debug real-time, multi-threaded software for simulation and training.
• Collaborate with software engineers and project management on Agile teams to plan tasks.
• Support and enhance existing software products as needed.

What You Will Do

• Design, develop, test, and debug real-time, multi-threaded, multiprocessing software applications, APIs, and associated user interfaces for simulation and training Regularly collaborate with other software engineers and project management to plan and prioritize development tasks on an Agile development team Support, maintain, and enhance existing software products as necessary Actively learn new technologies and techniques and apply them to new domains and problem sets

Qualifications

• Must be pursuing a Bachelor's or advanced degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) major and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co-op session.
• Object‑Oriented Design and Programming using C/C++ and/or C#
• Source code control (Subversion, git, ClearCase, etc.)
• Windows 10, Windows 11, and/or Linux software development
• Agile, Kanban, or SCRUM development methodologies
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Unit testing (GoogleTest, NUnit or similar) and software maintenance
• AI/ML and/or OpenAI development experience
• Unreal Engine experience with C++ and Blueprints for gaming development.
• Virtual reality and mixed reality development experience
• Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, and other virtualization and cloud computing technologies
• RDBMS databases such as PostgreSQL
• Multithreading IPCs (e.g. Mutex, Semaphore, Shared Memory, etc.)
• Continuous Integration experience (Bamboo, Jenkins, TeamCity or similar)
