Job description

Internship Job title:Software Engineer – RDS Engineering Intern, Summer 2027
Department/Division: Technology / TES
Hourly Range: $28.75-$30.14
Location: Ada, MI (Onsite)
*Note: This position is an office role, and you must be able to report in-person to Ada on Mondays through Thursdays, with Friday as a remote optional day
What’s special about this team:

Join the Technology Enterprise Solutions Engineering team, where we build and support the technology that helps Amway’s Research & Development and Supply Chain teams develop, test, and deliver products used around the world. As an intern, you'll work alongside experienced engineers, business leaders, and subject matter experts on real projects that make an impact across the business. We're a collaborative, global team that values curiosity, fresh ideas, and continuous learning. You'll gain hands‑on experience with enterprise technologies, AI-driven innovation, and digital transformation initiatives while building skills that can launch your career.

How would an intern contribute to the team’s success:

The intern will utilize their technical expertise to analyze our testing and validation processes, interpreting where manual, repetitive steps can be reduced and providing insights that improve the team’s consistency and efficiency. The intern will engage in collaborative coding, testing, and experimentation with seasoned developers, directly contributing a scalable AI-enabled prototype and recommendations for how (validated) testing could be accomplished with AI. Simultaneously, they will delve into pioneering AI technologies and development methodologies, leveraging their fresh insights to elevate our software products and reduce manual workload across the team.

An example of a typical project would be:
AI-assisted testing & validation prototype —
  • Analyze the manual test scripts for a core R&D platform (e.g., PLM/Teamcenter or a quality system), pinpoint the most repetitive or time‑consuming steps, and build a working AI prototype that drafts, summarizes, or streamlines validated testing, then measure the time saved against the current manual process.

STARLIMS turnaround-time predictor —
  • Use STARLIMS lab data to analyze how long samples take to move through testing and release, applying AI to identify where delays occur and predict turnaround time, helping the lab plan proactively and speed product release.

Simplifying R&D test data with AI —
  • Use AI and data analytics to simplify and standardize nearly 2 million R&D test code and analyte combinations across PLM, MES, and LIMS platforms, improving data quality, reducing complexity, and recommending scalable solutions that drive consistency and long‑term business value.

Broader project context:

Engineering team projects are focused on improving and maintaining existing product information systems and implementing new technologies and processes to support Product Development and Supply Chain areas. Depending on business priorities and the intern's strengths, the summer project may center on any of the examples above, with an AI-enabled focus on improving testing, validation, and lab efficiency as the primary theme.

Required skills and background:
Desired Major (list all that apply):

Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Systems/Technology, Data Science, or a closely related technical field.

Academic Eligibility:

Undergraduate students who will have completed their junior or senior year by the start of the internship and will remain academically active through the internship, with an anticipated graduation date between August 2027 and April 2028.

Technical Skills:
  • Experience working with AI tools and using them to improve analysis, automation, and insights (e.g., Copilot-style assistants, prompt experimentation).

  • Foundational programming in Python, Java, JavaScript, or C#/.NET; comfort reading and writing code.

  • Basic SQL / data querying and the ability to interpret and analyze data.

  • Comfort building clear technical documentation, Excel analyses, and PowerPoint/slide readouts to communicate findings.

Soft Skills:
  • A desire to explore deeper answers to key questions, especially around where AI can add value.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage deliverables with competing deadlines and work independently with light guidance.

  • Clear communication to both technical and non-technical audiences, and a collaborative, feedback-oriented mindset.

Your pay rate within the posted range will be based on your completed class year at the start of the internship program. Amway’s recruiting team will confirm your applicable rate during the recruitment process.

Amway does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role. Do not apply for this role if you will need Amway immigration sponsorship (e.g., H-1B, STEM OPT, TN, etc.) now or in the future.
