Job description

Internship Job title:Manufacturing Capabilities Intern, Summer 2027

Department/Division: Supply Chain / Manufacturing

Hourly Range: $21.62-24.36

Location: Ada, MI (Onsite)

*Note: This position is an office role, and you must be able to report in-person to Ada on Mondays through Thursdays, with Friday as a remote optional day

What’s special about this team:

The Manufacturing Capabilities team supports the tools, processes, and capabilities that help more than 700 manufacturing employees across Amway's Ada operations work safely, efficiently, and effectively. Because the team partners across multiple manufacturing plants and functions, the impact of its work can extend from a single production area to the broader manufacturing organization.

This internship offers a unique opportunity to explore how emerging technologies, including AI, can improve the daily experience of frontline employees. Interns will gain exposure to manufacturing operations, work directly with leaders and employees on the production floor, and help identify practical opportunities to improve productivity, knowledge sharing, and decision-making. The projects are highly visible and provide the chance to deliver meaningful business impact on real manufacturing challenges.

How would an intern contribute to the team’s success:

As a Manufacturing Capabilities Intern, you will help identify and implement practical applications of AI that support frontline manufacturing teams. Working with manufacturing leaders, technical experts, and production employees, you will evaluate business challenges, explore opportunities where AI can create value, and help pilot solutions that improve productivity, access to information, and operational effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Gain an understanding of manufacturing operations by spending time with frontline employees, leaders, and support teams.
  • Identify opportunities where AI can simplify work, improve information accessibility, reduce manual effort, or support decision-making.
  • Partner with stakeholders to evaluate potential AI use cases and prioritize opportunities based on business impact.
  • Develop, test, and refine AI-enabled tools, workflows, prompt libraries, or pilot solutions using approved technologies.
  • Gather feedback from end users to understand adoption challenges and improve usability.
  • Present recommendations and findings to manufacturing leadership, including business benefits, adoption considerations, and next steps.

Expected Impact

The intern will help Manufacturing identify practical and scalable ways to integrate AI into day-to-day operations. Through collaboration with frontline employees and leaders, the intern will contribute solutions that enhance productivity while ensuring technology is implemented in ways that are useful, accessible, and sustainable for employees.

An example of a typical project would be:

Example #1 - AI Knowledge Assistant for Frontline Employees

  • Develop an AI-enabled resource that helps employees quickly locate troubleshooting guidance, standard work instructions, training materials, and operational information.

Example #2 - Manufacturing Productivity Use Case Assessment

  • Partner with plant leaders to identify areas where AI could reduce manual effort, improve workflow efficiency, or streamline access to information. Evaluate several opportunities and recommend the highest-value use case for implementation.

Example #3 - Pilot and Adoption of an AI Solution

  • Design and test an AI-enabled solution within a manufacturing area, gather employee feedback, measure results, and develop recommendations for broader deployment.
