Job summary

Slate is hiring a Software Development Engineer II to build and ship features for our direct-to-consumer EV platform. You’ll design and deliver features, collaborate with product, UX, and senior engineers, and ship work that customers interact with across discovery, customization, and ownership journeys.

You’ll work independently, solve varied problems, and contribute to a fast-moving, hands-on culture where what you build directly impacts the Slate brand and customer experience.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional software development experience.
• Experience building and shipping features in customer-facing software systems.
• Working knowledge of web services and APIs, including testing and code reviews.
• Ability to solve a variety of problems and work independently.
• Experience consuming or integrating third-party APIs.
• Experience with ecommerce or marketplace systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and deliver features and components independently, with little day-to-day direction.
• Code and test your work and participate in code and design reviews.
• Own the quality of what you ship, including unit and functional tests.
• Solve a variety of problems creatively, weighing relevant factors and selecting sound methods.
• Collaborate with UX and product teams to understand customer needs and build the right thing.
• Maintain a broad understanding of your area and make good decisions within it.
• Take direction on new assignments and ask for input when trade-offs get larger.
• Share knowledge with teammates to help others get up to speed.
