Job summary

Slate is hiring a Senior Software Development Engineer to design and build features for our direct-to-consumer EV platform. You will own the design and delivery of complex features and services, collaborating with product and UX to shape the customer experience.

You will work on reliable, scalable web services with API integration, and mentor teammates while balancing speed with long-term quality. This role emphasizes ownership, cross-team collaboration, and risk management in a startup

Qualifications

• 6+ years of professional software development experience building customer-facing software systems.
• Experience owning the design and delivery of complex features or services, and making sound technical trade-offs.
• Experience building reliable, scalable web services and APIs, with working knowledge of cloud infrastructure.
• Ability to solve complex problems, simplify where possible, and deliver high-quality work with minimal direction.
• Experience integrating third-party services through APIs, events, or webhooks.
• Experience with ecommerce or marketplace systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and deliver complex features and services, selecting the technical approach.
• Code and test system components and provide thoughtful code/design reviews.
• Own end-to-end quality including unit, functional, and integration tests.
• Simplify complex problems with creativity and good judgement.
• Collaborate with UX and product teams to translate customer needs into solutions.
• Be a trusted technical resource and make sound trade-off decisions.
• Understand how technical choices affect customers and the business; raise risks early.
• Build relationships, coordinate work, and mentor your team.
