Job summary

Qualifications

• GS-5: Three years of general experience equivalent to the next lower grade level demonstrating ability to review problems, gather data, plan and organize work, and communicate effectively in writing and orally.
• GS-7: One year of specialized experience at GS-5 level assisting individuals in establishing entitlement to receive benefits and adjudicating or reconsidering claims; interpreting program requirements.
• GS-9: Master’s or higher education or two years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; combining education and experience may apply.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct and personal service to the public, explaining beneficiaries’ rights under Social Security laws.
• Gather facts and evidence to establish eligibility for benefits and determine benefit amounts.
• Conduct interviews to obtain and verify information on eligibility for retirement, survivors, disability, health insurance, and SSI including State supplements; make final entitlement decisions.
