Virginia Department of Social Services seeks a Benefit Programs Specialist I to assist in determining eligibility for various social service programs. The role includes interviewing clients, processing financial assistance applications, and ensuring data accuracy within program guidelines.

Under supervision and training, you will gain expertise toward progression to Benefit Programs Specialist II, with salary progression per the department's plan.

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of mathematics to calculate percentages, formulas and averages; interviewing techniques.
• Experience providing customer service to the public including interviewing and information gathering.
• Skill in operating a personal computer and office software to research, scan and retrieve data, create and manipulate reports.

Responsabilités

• Conduct interviews of persons to determine eligibility for assistance and re-determines continuing eligibility.
• Processes applications for financial assistance and diversion; explains client responsibilities, rights and program availability.
• Evaluates data for accuracy and substantiates its accuracy.
• Computes assistance plans and determines the need for allowances for special circumstances.
• Evaluates educational, work experience and levels of social functioning; assesses employability.
