Job summary

Upon successful training, the employee will be reclassified to an Eligibility Counselor 2. This on-site position requires a Bachelor's degree and adherence to criminal history disclosure and fingerprinting requirements.

Qualifications

• Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree.
• Substitution of Experience for Education: full-time professional eligibility determination experience or para-professional experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
• Two years of full-time para-professional experience as an Eligibility Assistant or a State contractor serving in this capacity may substitute for the required education.

Responsibilities

• Learns to manage a workload of initial and on-going eligibility determinations for SNAP and TANF programs.
• Learns to provide case management for initial SNAP and TANF eligibility and changes.
• Learns to calculate monthly income and expenses for budgeting and to document case activity.
• Learns to ensure accurate receipt of entitled benefits by reviewing data and maintaining confidentiality.
• Learns to assist customers with the application process and scheduling appointments.
• Learns to explain eligibility and ongoing responsibilities to customers.
• Learns to assess customer needs and refer to internal or external services.
• Learns to develop partnerships with vendors and outside organizations.
