Job summary

State of Tennessee in Oak Ridge seeks an Eligibility Determination trainee to learn interview techniques and determine SNAP/TANF eligibility under supervision.

You will calculate income, verify data, maintain case files, and assist applicants with the process while building partnerships to promote program services. Training leads to reclassification to Eligibility Counselor 2 upon successful completion.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; substitutions allowed with experience or para-professional work for eligibility determination roles.
• Two years of para-professional experience as an Eligibility Assistant or a State contractor serving in this capacity for the Department of Human Services.
• Criminal history disclosure and fingerprinting per agency requirements.

Responsibilities

• Learns to manage a workload of initial and ongoing eligibility determinations for SNAP and TANF programs.
• Learns to provide case management for initial SNAP and TANF eligibility and changes.
• Learns to calculate monthly income and expenses and document case activity.
• Learns to review data from customers and systems to ensure accurate benefits.
• Learns to assist customers with the application process and explain eligibility requirements.
