Job summary

Siemens invites undergraduates to join the Building Automation Design Engineer Internship Program for Summer 2027 in the Chicago area. The role focuses on rotating through smart buildings teams, performing design tasks, and contributing to energy-efficient infrastructure projects.

Interns will spend most time as Design Engineer, with some collaboration with the Team Lead on engineering-related administrative tasks, developing hands-on skills in building automation systems and related tools.

Qualifications

• Must be an undergraduate enrolled at a 4-year US college.
• Pursuing an Engineering-related degree (Electrical/Mechanical/Industrial).
• Ability to work 40 hours per week for 10 weeks.
• Must be able to work on-site up to 3 days a week.
• No relocation or housing stipend provided.

Responsibilities

• Understand project requirements and design build engineering solutions for facilities (universities, data centers, hospitals, etc.).
• Prepare design documents: system layouts, electrical drawings, BOMs, sequences, valve/damper schedules, panel layouts; compile submittals to Siemens L5 standard.
• Design building network architecture to support operator workstations.
• Analyze plans, specs, and codes to identify requirements and risks.
• Design pressurization, chiller/boiler sequencing control.
• Prepare engineering re-estimates and coordinate with sales/management.
