Job summary

Siemens Building Automation is seeking a Building Automation Design Engineer Intern for Summer 2027 in the San Francisco Bay Area (Fremont, CA). This 10-week, full-time internship offers hands-on experience in designing building automation systems for educational facilities and commercial environments.

You will rotate through departments, develop design documents, and collaborate with the Design Engineering Team Lead to gain practical skills in HVAC, lighting, and control strategies.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate enrollment at a 4-year U.S. college or university.
• Pursuing an Engineering-related degree (Electrical/Mechanical/Industrial, Construction Management, CAD/Drafting).
• Ability to work 40 hours per week for 10 weeks (May–July or June–August).
• On-site up to 3 days per week.
• No relocation or housing stipend provided.
• Located within 50 miles of the Fremont office.

Responsibilities

• Design engineering solutions for higher education and facilities.
• Prepare design documents: layouts, BOMs, and sequences of operations.
• Design building network architecture to support operator workstations.
• Analyze plans, codes, and project requirements for risks.
• Develop pressurization and control sequencing for HVAC systems.
• Perform engineering re-estimates and coordinate with sales/management.
