Job summary

Komatsu Mining is seeking a Welder (Shop) in a hands-on, fast-paced shop environment. You will handle carbon arc gouging and FCAW welding, read complex weld symbols and blueprints, and operate rigging and overhead cranes safely.

The role emphasizes precision fitting, rigorous quality standards, and ongoing training to support manufacturing excellence. You will need strong math skills and experience in a shop setting, with certification tests to complete within initial months.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years' hands-on experience with carbon arc gouging and FCAW welding electrodes (1/16" and 3/32" diameters).
• Ability to pass a 1" weld certification test (positions 1G-4G) with FCAW within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate expertise in Carbon Arc Gouging and Oxy/Fuel Torch operations for precise metal cutting and prep.
• Interpret weld symbols and read technical prints/blueprints accurately.
• Operate rigging equipment and overhead cranes safely and meet certification requirements.
• Perform fitting and layout to prepare components before welding.
• Utilize welding electrodes across materials and specs.
• Carry out carbon arc gouging to support high-quality repair and fabrication work.
• Achieve and maintain weld certifications per Komatsu standards.
• Apply advanced trade mathematics to solve measurement and fabrication challenges.
• Interpret drawings, charts, tables, and formulas to ensure project accuracy.
• Use precision measuring instruments to verify dimensions and tolerances.
• Maintain detailed reports and records to support data collection and team communication.
• Read machinist measuring instruments to support quality control.
• Participate in ongoing welding training to stay current with industry practices.
