Under the direction of the Safety Director, performs all duties and responsibilities to ensure employee’s safety in following the workplace safety guidelines. This position works closely with Project Managers, Field Manpower, and Foremen to ensure all in compliance with OSHA and EPA standards.

This job requires the ability and desire to work in a fast-paced multi-tasked environment with a focus towards specific safety practices and health programs. It also requires travel to branch office locations, jobsites and customer facilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Conducts job site visits 3-4 days per week.
  • Travels up to 70% of the working week, locations determined in coordination with the Safety Director.
  • Work with third parties coordinating testing, sampling, and anything else necessary based on the job conditions.
  • Aids in training employees on workplace safety guidelines.
  • Coordinates accident investigations and reporting for the company.
  • Investigates and corrects specific safety violations on job sites.
  • Conducts and documents employee safety observations, Company property and construction site inspections, and periodic Company vehicle safety inspections.
  • Works directly with Project Managers and Field Personnel to address safety concerns.
  • Ensures adequate PPE levels for project/site locations.
  • Determines all needed PPE and training for workers as needed.
  • Develops and conducts site specific toolbox talks and daily safety plans.
  • Drives and promotes zero incidents through HSE culture.
  • Has a good understanding of claims management and workers’ compensation reporting requirements.
  • Helps to ensure the company is in compliance with local, state, and federal workplace environmental health and safety regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • 3+ years of experience in the safety field is a plus.
  • A bachelor’s degree in safety is preferred, however equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Professional safety certifications are a plus (GSP, CHST, CSP).
  • Ability to maintain a balance between teamwork and compliance with safety issues is required.
  • Capable of obtaining the OSHA 500 in the construction industry to conduct effective project training is required.
  • Significant experience with Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint) applications is required.
  • Ability to deal with fraught situations in a professional manner is required.
  • Excellent customer service skills are required.
  • Demonstration of a positive attitude is required.
  • Ability to think strategically, make sound decisions, and produce accurate and timely results is required.
  • Building positive working relationships with multiple levels of employees, management, and customers is required.
  • Demonstrating integrity and professionalism is required.

The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The physical strength rating is classified as medium work which entails exerting 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10-25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Environmental conditions of this position are extremely wide ranging including inside, outside, extreme hot, extreme cold, fumes, odors, toxic conditions, dust poor ventilation, hazards, humid, loud noises, vibrations, and wet. This position frequently requires protective equipment for eyes, feet, head, and occasionally for arm, hearing, full body, leg, respirator, and skin. The employee will need to understand simple math, shop math, technical reports, technical instructions, business letters, and simple memos. Writing or presenting summaries, business letters, formal presentations, and simple memos is required. Operation of a computer, hand tools (manual and power), a telephone, headphone, and a hand calculator are required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to commute to customer and company locations by land and air.
