Job summary

IMIA, LLC seeks a Shipfitter to fabricate, assemble, and erect steel structures. You will read blueprints, lay out parts, and align components using jacks, turnbuckles, and clamps, prioritizing safety and quality.

This role requires physical stamina, hand-tool proficiency, and teamwork to maximize productivity. Experience with shipyard processes and 1689/1688 knowledge is a plus, along with shipboard exposure.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions and manuals.
• Familiarity with the metric system and basic shop math.
• Ability to stand continuously for long periods of time.
• Ability to read blueprints, drawings, calipers, tape measures and angle gauges.
• Six months to one-year related experience and/or training in steel fabrication.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints and specifications.
• Lay out, fabricate and brace metal structural parts.
• Position parts in hull and align components using jacks, turnbuckles, and clamps.
• Mark reference lines and drilling locations; install temporary fasteners for welding.
• Operate shop machinery to roll, bend, flange, cut, and shape plates and beams.
• Prepare product for shipment and maintain safe, clean work areas.
