Job summary

Huntington Ingalls Industries' Newport News Shipbuilding division seeks an experienced Shipfitter to read blueprints, cut and fit steel structures, and assemble hull components for new builds, repairs, and overhauls.

With 3+ years of Fitting/Fabrication experience, candidates must work at heights, in confined spaces, lift 40 lbs, pass a respirator test, and be willing to work rotating shifts. Competitive pay and benefits accompany this role.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3+ years of Fitting/Fabrication experience.
• Ability to work at extreme heights or in small confined spaces.
• Must be able to lift 40 lbs and pass a respirator fit test.
• Must be able to work all assigned shifts and pass Physical Agility Test.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints to place and fabricate steel structures.
• Measure, cut, grind, fit, align and tack weld parts to form hull components.
• Build in-place interior structures, hatches, bulkheads, and other steel work on ships.
• Perform tasks across shops, dry-docks, and onboard ships during new construction, repairs, and overhauls.
