Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED, plus 1–3 years shipfitting experience.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools to construct marine vessels; knowledge of ship terminology.
• Ability to cut and burn with a torch or plasma cutter.
• Tack weld with 7018, 6011 stainless rod, MIG, and aluminum.
• Knowledge of ship terminology, safety, and OSHA regulations.
• Ability to read and comprehend written, oral, or diagram forms.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints.
• Knowledge of safe operation and use of hand and power tools.
• Ability to read a tape measure.

Responsibilities

• Regular attendance with flexible hours including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
• Comply with safety, ethics, and environmental policies and regulations.
• Assist in aligning parts using jacks, turnbuckles, clips, wedges, and mauls.
• Prepare molds and templates for nonstandard parts.
• Install packing, gaskets, liners, and structural members.
• Tack weld clips and brackets prior to permanent welding.
• Lay out parts, bulkheads, and frames; loft parts from offsets.
• Make quality cuts with torch or plasma.
• Flag cranes and rig lifts as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
