Job summary

Serco is seeking Advanced Mechanical Assemblers to support U.S. Naval Ships and Navy installations. You will fabricate and assemble electromechanical components from blueprints, perform preventive maintenance, and operate in shipboard environments with safety as a priority.

The role requires a high school diploma, ability to obtain DoD secret clearance, and 5+ years of shipboard experience. OSHA, respirator qualification, and forklift certification are targeted qualifications for this position.

Qualifications

• A High School Diploma or equivalent.
• The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.
• Ability to obtain and gain access to shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS), background check and drug screen.
• The ability to obtain an OSHA certification.
• The ability to get respirator qualified and wear PPE throughout shift.
• Ability to obtain Forklift certification.
• Minimum 5 years of experience using power tools and assembling both large scale and intricate mechanical assemblies.
• Ability to obtain a Firewatch and Cable Installer certification.
• Minimum 5 years of Shipboard Experience in a related field.
• Read drawings (Beginner), drill holes, cut metal, shoot studs & use torque wrench (without supervision).
• HAZMAT control & safety experience.
• Ability to bolt/unbolt cableways, deck plates & equipment.
• Operate light machinery/equipment.
• Position, join, align, wrap & seal pipe & conduit sections.
• Carry equipment & clean spaces.
• Remove lagging & paint.
• Follow directions of senior employees.
• Demonstrate ability to work with blueprints, assembly drawings and sketches.
• Experience in fabrication and precision assembly of mechanical assemblies.
• Willingness to work second/third shift and overtime.
• Work in high heat spaces and climb shipyard stairs; lift up to 50 lbs and push/pull up to 40 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Follow blueprints, diagrams to fabricate and assemble electromechanical and electronic assemblies.
• Keep equipment operational by performing preventive maintenance.
• Work within standard concepts, practices, and procedures.
• Plan and accomplish goals with limited experience.
• Work onboard U.S. Naval Ships and military installations in challenging conditions.
• Handle equipment with safety to avoid injuries.
