Job summary

CMC, a Fortune 500® company, seeks an experienced mill supervisor to ensure steel is manufactured to CMC specifications safely and on schedule. You will visually inspect furnaces, adjust slag chemistry, manage inventory, read drawings, and coordinate with operations, maintenance and supervision.

Proficiency with SAP/QMOS, Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required; weekend work may be needed. We offer Day 1 benefits, a 401(k) plan with company match, life and disability insurance, and

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of mill experience required.
  • Proficient in Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to read roll and guide drawings.
  • Data entry in SAP and QMOS.
  • Willing to work weekends/holidays and with a budget mindset.
  • Ability to work in extreme heat.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all steel is manufactured to CMC specifications safely and on time.
  • Visually inspect furnaces for problems and maintain slag chemistry.
  • Adjust flux additions to optimize slag chemistry.
  • Work with operation, monitoring, and performance of melt shop equipment.
  • Communicate production issues to supervisors and colleagues.
  • Troubleshoot problems using knowledge and teamwork.
  • Control and replenish consumables on the operation floor.
  • Assist maintenance and help supervise tasks when needed.

Why This Job
  • Work to ensure all steel is manufactured to CMC specifications and safely in a timely manner
  • Visually inspect furnace for problems (water leaks, refractory wear, etc)
  • To ensure slag foaming is appropriate
  • Adjust flux additions based on slag analysis to optimize slag chemistry
  • Work with personnel in the operation, monitoring, and performance of all melt shop equipment (caster, furnace, cranes, ladle furnace, etc.)
  • Communicate with fellow workers and supervisors about possible production issues, concerns, and needs
  • Trouble shoots work related problems using job knowledge, experience, and by communicating with others (pulpit operator, process manager, maintenance personnel, etc)
  • Responsible for controlling and replenishing the inventory of consumables needed on the operations floor
  • Assist maintenance personnel when requested/needed
  • Fill in or assist supervisor in the performing of duties when requested and needed
What You'll Need
  • Minimum 5 years of Mill Experience
  • Strong computer skills required (good knowledge of Outlook, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Ability to read roll and guide drawings as necessary
  • Work which may include weekends and holidays
  • Data entry in SAP / QMOS
  • Ability to work with a budget for lowering cost (SAP)
  • Must be able to schedule work through work orders and/or delegation
  • Ability to work in extreme heat
Your Education
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience is required
