Job summary

CMC, a Fortune 500® company in the steel reinforcement sector, seeks a melt shop specialist to drive safe, on-time production and maintain strict quality standards. You will work across furnace, caster, cranes, and related equipment, coordinating with teams to resolve issues and optimize performance.

Ideal candidates bring at least 5 years in melt shop operations, strong computer skills, and the ability to read drawings.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years melt shop experience and knowledge of melt shop operations.
  • Strong computer skills with MS Office and SAP/QMOS familiarity.
  • Ability to read roll and guide drawings.
  • Ability to work weekends and holidays.
  • Budgeting focus to lower costs and schedule work via orders.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all steel is manufactured to CMC specs safely and on time.
  • Visually inspect furnace for leaks and refractory wear.
  • Ensure slag foaming is appropriate and optimize slag chemistry.
  • Adjust flux additions based on slag analysis.
  • Operate melt shop equipment with cross-functional teams.
  • Communicate production issues and needs with supervisors.
  • Troubleshoot problems with operators, managers, and maintenance.
  • Assist maintenance and fill in supervisory duties as needed.

What You’ll Do
  • Work to ensure all steel is manufactured to CMC specifications and safely in a timely manner
  • Visually inspect furnace for problems (water leaks, refractory wear, etc)
  • To ensure slag foaming is appropriate
  • Adjust flux additions based on slag analysis to optimize slag chemistry
  • Work with personnel in the operation, monitoring, and performance of all melt shop equipment (caster, furnace, cranes, ladle furnace, etc.)
  • Communicate with fellow workers and supervisors about possible production issues, concerns, and needs
  • Trouble shoots work related problems using job knowledge, experience, and by communicating with others (pulpit operator, process manager, maintenance personnel, etc)
  • Assist maintenance personnel when requested/needed
  • Fill in or assist supervisor in the performing of duties when requested and needed
What You’ll Need
  • A minimum of 5 years melt shop experience and detailed knowledge of melt shop and casting operations
  • Strong computer skills required (good knowledge of Outlook, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Ability to read roll and guide drawings as necessary
  • Work which may include weekends and holidays
  • Data entry in SAP / QMOS
  • Ability to work with a budget for lowering cost (SAP)
  • Must be able to schedule work through work orders and/or delegation
  • Ability to work in extreme heat
Your Education
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
