DEPARTMENT: HOUSING AND SERVICES – SECURITY

REPORTS TO: SECURITY MANAGER

Salary: $24.00 hourly

JOB TITLE: SHIFT SUPERVISOR

SUMMARY: Perform responsible work involving various specialized assignments and security systems in a family homeless shelter. The Shift Supervisor reports to the Security Manager.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Train new security employees in all aspects of the facility.
• Monitor access control, and ensure effective use of the magnetometer and X-ray machine.
• Make rounds throughout the facility and external premises to prevent, detect, deter, and report hazardous situations, trespassers, and illegal activities.
• Respond to emergencies in person throughout the building, providing guidance and support to staff and subordinates.
• Complete monthly security reports.
• Conduct daily security and fire safety system inspections.
• Fulfill all job responsibilities of a Client Care Monitor in their absence.
• Adjust staff schedules due to sick calls and unexpected staff shortages.
• Maintain safety and security of clients and staff.
• Provide crisis intervention when needed.
• Assist the Security Manager in preparing and executing fire drills.
• Oversee AWOL family property pack-up.
• Monitor logging of client property to ensure accuracy.
• Ensure all managers are aware of critical incidents on assigned shifts.
• Review log book entries, incident reports, and administrative responsibilities on shifts, checking for errors and ensuring accuracy.
• Attend and conduct meetings and training as needed.
• Check inventory of all assigned equipment daily and investigate discrepancies.
• Perform all related duties as assigned.

Experience and Qualifications:

• Associate's Degree in social services, criminology, or related field; or equivalent experience.
• Valid N.Y.S. Security Guard License, Fire Guard License, and certification in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI).
• General knowledge of security systems, video surveillance, and fire detection/alarm systems.
• Ability to solve problems and make decisions based on factual information.
• Flexibility in days and hours of availability; familiarity with CARES preferred.
