DEPARTMENT: HOUSING AND SERVICES – SECURITY

REPORTS TO: SECURITY MANAGER

Salary: $24.00 hourly

Job Title: Shift Supervisor
Summary

Perform responsible work involving a variety of specialized assignments, and security systems in a family homeless shelter. The Shift Supervisor reports to the Security Manager.

Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Train new security employees in all aspects of the facility.
  2. Monitor access control, and ensure effective use of the magnetometer and X-ray machine.
  3. Make rounds throughout the facility, and external premises to prevent, detect, deter, and report hazardous situations, trespassers, and illegal activities.
  4. Respond to emergencies in person throughout the building, and provide guidance and support to line staff and subordinates.
  5. Complete monthly security reports.
  6. Conduct daily security and fire safety system inspections.
  7. Fulfill all job responsibilities of a Client Care Monitor in their absence.
  8. Adjust staff schedules due to sick calls, and unexpected staff shortages.
  9. Maintain safety and security of clients and staff.
  10. Provide crisis intervention when needed.
  11. Assist the Security Manager in preparing and executing fire drills.
  12. Oversee AWOL family property pack up.
  13. Monitor logging of client property to ensure accuracy.
  14. Ensure that all managers are kept aware of critical incidents on assigned shifts.
  15. Review log book entries, incident reports, and critical administrative responsibilities on assigned shifts, checking for errors and ensuring accuracy.
  16. Attend and conduct various meetings and training as needed.
  17. Check inventory of all assigned equipment daily, and investigate any discrepancies.
  18. Perform all related duties as assigned.
Experience and Qualifications

Associate's Degree in social services, criminology, or related field; or equivalent experience required. A valid N.Y.S. Security Guard License, Fire Guard License, and certification in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) are required. Must possess a general knowledge of security systems, including video surveillance and fire detection/alarm notification systems. Ability to solve problems and make decisions based on factual information is essential. Flexibility on days and hours of availability is required. Familiarity with CARES is preferred.
