Job summary

The Salvation Army Southern California is seeking an Ambassador to help transform the lives of our homeless residents by ensuring the well-being and safety of our residents, performing light maintenance and housekeeping, and assisting with intake and front desk duties across three shifts.

This role requires compassion, trauma-informed care, conflict resolution, and reliable teamwork; it offers the opportunity to work in a supportive shelter environment while adhering to facility guidelines.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate or GED with 1 year work
• Minimum 1 year sobriety along with consistent participation/attendance in a Support Group
• Experience in or basic knowledge of mental health, homelessness and/or addictions fields preferred
• Criminal background checks are required
• MVR (motor vehicle record) check if necessary
• Basic literacy and computer skills
• CPR and First Aid certification must be obtained in one month of start date

Responsibilities

• Well-being of Residents: Use trauma informed care and de-escalation to support residents.
• Security of Residents and Facility: Patrol buildings and doors; ensure safety and adherence to guidelines.
• Light Housekeeping and Maintenance: Clean rooms, bathrooms, dining hall; maintain grounds for safety.
• Front Desk: Monitor desk, answer shelter phone, perform intake duties; data entry on Salvation Army software.
