Job summary

The Salvation Army King County Shelter in Seattle, WA is seeking Shelter Support Staff to handle client intakes, conduct interviews, process intake data, and perform security rounds under daily supervision. This is a Regular Full-Time, non‑exempt role located in Seattle with in‑person interviews required.

Duties include responding to crisis and inquiries by phone, assisting residents to maintain a safe environment, conducting facility inspections, coordinating with police and emergency services,

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or GED.
• Minimum of 6 months experience in public contact/customer service.
• Experience in social service shelter / residential preferred.
• WA Driver’s License preferred.

Responsibilities

• Respond to crisis and inquiry telephone calls by providing support, information, and referrals to other appropriate social service.
• Provide assistance to residents to ensure a safe environment, to include compliance with rules.
• Conduct periodic walking inspections of all areas of the facility, for the purpose of identifying and initiating appropriate action.
• Respond to emergency situations that may arise, making independent decisions within policy guidelines.
• Provide crisis intervention and institute security procedures should a critical or threatening situation.
• Conduct client intakes and departure processes, as required by department policy.
• Provide orientation, support, and supervision to staff and volunteers.
• Work cooperatively with other Salvation Army staff and represent Salvation Army programs to community partners.
• Maintain case records and required forms and reports in prescribed systems.
• Comply with Salvation Army procedures and employee handbook.
• Prepare water, coffee, snacks for guests, when needed.
• General cleaning of facility areas and sleeping quarters as assigned.
• Perform other duties as requested.
