Job summary

Westhab, Inc. is seeking a Safety Security Officer to ensure the safety and security of clients, staff, and property at homeless shelters across NYC.

The role covers 24-hour operations with relief shifts and mandated overtime, reporting to the Shift Supervisor and Security Manager. Responsibilities include room inspections, client escort, entrance screening with magnetometer/x-ray, crisis intervention, hourly rounds, incident reporting, and coordination with police and first responders.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• NYS Security Guard License and 8-Hour Annual Certificate are required.
• Fire Guard License for Shelters (F02) is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily inspections of clients' rooms.
• Escort clients to appointments as needed.
• Monitor clients' behavior and provide excellent customer service.
• Control access at the main entrance by screening for weapons.
• Perform crisis intervention and document interventions.
• Make hourly rounds throughout the facility.
• Respond to incidents.
• Assist with client intakes and property logging.
• Maintain storage areas and complete required logs.
• Coordinate with police, fire, and first responders as directed.
• Monitor video surveillance and alarm systems.
• Participate in fire safety procedures and evacuations.
