Job summary

Insight Housing is seeking a Resident Advocate for our women's shelter in Berkeley. The role involves direct supportive services, intake, and referrals to housing resources, with emphasis on trauma-informed care and safety.

You will work under supervision to assist participants with daily living activities, documentation, and coordinating with community partners to secure housing and services.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Ability to complete CPR/First Aid Training.
• Direct support experience with homelessness or related social issues is preferred; lived experience is valuable.
• Customer service experience in any industry considered.
• Flexibility to work on short notice and overtime for on-call shifts.
• Commitment to trauma-informed care for homeless individuals.
• Lived experience strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with computer use and MS Office; HMIS is a plus.
• Ability to interact professionally with diverse people.

Responsibilities

• Communicate clearly with program participants and meet their needs with empathy.
• Supervise shelter operations and maintain safety of participants and property.
• Provide emotional support and counseling as needed.
• Offer information and referrals to community resources.
• Manage intake processes and enroll participants in HMIS.
• Prepare intake packets and participant charts.
• Update attendance and housing boards daily.
• Assist with meals, cleaning, laundry, and room upkeep following health guidelines.
• Assist participants with activities of daily living and personal hygiene.
• Provide crisis intervention and advocacy as needed.
• Explain facility rules and ensure consistent adherence.
