Job summary

St. Vincent de Paul seeks a Program Assistant to provide essential 24-hour awake coverage and manage day-to-day shelter operations with dignity and care. You will coordinate with case managers, staff, and guests to meet needs, provide crisis intervention, and help guests move toward stability.

The role focuses on safety, housing support, activity coordination, and maintaining records while supporting a welcoming environment for volunteers and clients.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English.
• Ability to relate with others respectfully and work well as a team member.
• Sensitivity to the needs of persons who are homeless and in challenging circumstances.

Responsibilities

• Provide 24-hour awake coverage and support to shelter guests.
• Assign volunteer tasks to guests and ensure tasks are completed.
• Ensure safety and security of guests, volunteers, visitors, and staff.
• Respond promptly to emergencies per agency protocols.
• Supervise children and encourage participation in activities.
• Assist with daily living activities, meal distribution, resource navigation, and transportation coordination.
• Maintain accurate records of sign-ins and attendance.
