Job summary

St. Vincent de Paul Eastside Shelter in Rosedale, MD is seeking a Program Assistant (PA) for part-time, on-site coverage.

The PA will provide essential 24-hour awake coverage and manage day-to-day shelter operations, ensuring welfare, safety and comfort of guests while offering crisis intervention and referrals. You will work with clients, case managers and staff to meet guests' needs with dignity, empowering transitions toward stability and self-sufficiency.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English.
• Ability and willingness to relate with others in a respectful manner and work well as a team member.
• Ability to maintain professional boundaries with program participants and refer them to case management staff.
• Sensitivity to the needs and concerns of persons who are homeless, and the ability to be comfortable working with persons of all backgrounds.
• Understanding of confidentiality of clients.
• Ability to organize oneself and workload to accomplish tasks.
• Knowledge of floor and building maintenance; basic handyperson skills.

Responsibilities

• Assures that the daily/weekly/monthly housekeeping schedule is completed on time.
• Assigns volunteer tasks to shelter guests and supports task completion.
• Ensures safety and security by communicating expectations and conducting perimeter checks.
• Responds to emergencies following protocols.
• Supervises children and encourages participation in activities.
• Monitors supplies and reorders as needed.
• Supports resident activities and events; assists with meal distribution and transport coordination.
• Maintains accurate records of sign-ins and attendance; resolves discrepancies.
