Job summary

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul - Phoenix is seeking a Shift Supervisor for its shelter/transitional housing program to oversee overnight operations and ensure a safe, welcoming environment for residents.

You will lead a team of Service Coordinators and work with security, case management, and community partners to manage intake/discharge, meals, and incident reporting while maintaining program standards and resident well-being around the clock.

Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum of 1+ year working with vulnerable populations in a shelter or similar environment.
• Education: High school diploma or GED.
• Skills: Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Technical: Proficiency with Microsoft Office and internet navigation; ability to learn new databases quickly.
• Certification: Current Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card (Washington Street Shelter).
• Physical: Ability to stand, walk, lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Lead service coordinators in maintaining a calm, safe, and supportive environment, directly supervising Service Coordinators and volunteers on shift.
• Provide daily guidance and support to the team, monitoring adherence to program policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
• Collaborate with security and program staff to respond to and document emergencies, including behavioral issues, medical situations, and safety or facilities concerns.
• Oversee critical shift activities, including resident intake/discharge, meal or snack service operations, supply distribution, and the preparation/maintenance/transition and clean up of sleeping areas.
• Maintain accurate records and logs in appropriate data systems (eg, HMIS, Uplift, etc.), including staff schedules, attendance, incident reports, and the proper handling/documentation of resident property.
• Ensure the cleanliness, organization, and safety of all workspaces, dormitories, and communal areas, addressing sanitation needs or emergency clean-ups as they arise.
• Support and coordinate volunteers, facilitating a welcoming and inclusive environment that ensures a positive experience for community contributors.
• Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and agency events to stay aligned with shelter goals and SVdP’s culture of “Let None Be Lost.”
• Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
