Job summary

The St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore is seeking a Program Assistant to provide essential 24-hour awake coverage and oversee daily shelter operations.

You will support guests, coordinate resources, and help ensure safety, dignity, and self-sufficiency. Responsibilities include crisis intervention, supervising activities, maintaining records, assisting with meals and transportation, and coordinating with case managers and staff to meet residents' needs.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English.
• Ability to relate with others respectfully and work in a team.
• Maintain professional boundaries with participants.
• Sensitive to needs of persons who are homeless or poor.
• Respect for client confidentiality.
• Organize work and tasks efficiently.
• Knowledge of floor/building maintenance; basic handyperson skills.

Responsibilities

• Assists with daily activities of living, meal distribution, and transportation coordination.
• Maintains sign-in records, attendance, and discrepancies.
• Mediates conflicts to maintain a peaceful environment.
• Assists in resident activities and events as scheduled.
• Responds to emergencies per agency/sh shelter protocols.
• Implements safety checks on guests, staff, volunteers and visitors.
• Supervises children and encourages participation in activities.
• Monitors maintenance supplies and notifies supervisors when reordering is needed.
• Assists with housekeeping tasks and daily upkeep of the shelter.
• Supports a welcoming environment for volunteers and staff.
