Catholic Charities of Baltimore is seeking a Program Assistant for the Weinberg Housing & Resource Center (WHRC) in Baltimore, MD. This direct-service position supports adults experiencing homelessness in a fast-paced emergency shelter, helping with meals, hygiene, documentation, and daily living needs.

Qualifications

• One year of related experience preferred, particularly with individuals experiencing homelessness or at-risk populations.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to build positive relationships with people from diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to stay courteous, patient, calm, and professional in challenging situations.
• Ability to intervene in and de-escalate conflict respectfully and effectively.
• Dependable attendance and punctuality.

Responsibilities

• Provide respectful, client-centered support that helps residents feel valued and informed.
• Monitor activity to maintain a safe environment for residents, staff, volunteers, and visitors.
• Respond to resident concerns, incidents, emergencies, and crises calmly and professionally.
• Help de-escalate conflicts using respectful communication and established safety procedures.
• Assist residents with meals, clothing, laundry, hygiene needs, and maintaining clean living spaces.
• Orient residents and volunteers to services, expectations, and program procedures.
• Inform residents of available services, rights, and grievance processes.
• Maintain accurate logs, records, and incident reports.
