Job summary

Houston Area Women's Center in Houston, TX seeks a Residential Mentor to support women and children in our domestic violence shelter. The role combines peer counseling, safety planning, and mentoring to help residents adapt to a communal living environment.

You will facilitate conflict resolution, maintain resident files, and coordinate with teams to address client needs. This full-time, on-site position requires attentiveness, clear communication, and a compassionate approach.

Qualifications

• Associates Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Public Health, or Criminal Justice.
• Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Public Health, or Criminal Justice with 1 year of relevant experience.
• Experience in social services, case management, or similar field.
• Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams).
• Valid Texas Driver's License with a good driving record; ability to travel to off-site locations using personal transportation.

Responsibilities

• Provide mentoring, crisis intervention, safety planning, and supportive services to women and children in a domestic violence shelter.
• Facilitate mediation between residents and model non-violent conflict resolution.
• Assign and monitor residents’ personal responsibilities and maintain resident files.
• Conduct orientations, intakes, group meetings, and ensure policy compliance.
• Report abuse/neglect to appropriate authorities and coordinate with departments as needed.
